'Timely' 911 Call Prevents Garage Blaze From Spreading To Nearby Homes: Mount Prospect FD

Over 20 firefighters, including some from Arlington Heights and Des Plaines, assisted in putting out the fire.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A fire that fully engulfed a detached garage at a residence, threatening nearby homes in the process, was successfully put out over the weekend by as many as 20 firefighters.

The Mount Prospect Fire Department is reporting there were no injuries to residents and emergency personnel. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though the department said it "appears to be accidental in nature." Damage is estimated to be around $50,000.

Mount Prospect firefighters responded to the fire at 6:46 p.m. Saturday, in the 300 block of North Pine Street. Crews were able to quickly deploy hose lines and bring the fire under control within 10 minutes, according to MPFD. Firefighters from Arlington Heights and Des Plaines assisted.

"If not for the timely call to 911 and the quick response of the fire department, the outcome could have been much worse," Mount Prospect Fire Chief Tom Wang said.
