Vigil Planned To Honor Slain Arlington Heights Couple

WHEELING, IL — The courtyard of Wheeling High School will be filled with candlelight Wednesday night when staff, students and community members gather to remember one of their teachers and her husband. According to the Daily Herald, a candlelight vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday in remembrance of Annie Martin, 71, and David Martin, 72, whom officials said were stabbed to death Saturday at the Arlington Heights home they shared with their daughter Deborah Martin, who is being held on first-degree murder charges in their deaths. According to the news report, Anne Martin taught at Wheeling High School for more than 20 years and retired in 2014.

Organizers of the upcoming vigil suggested that attendees wear blue and gold, the school colors.

Deborah Martin is being held without bond in Cook County on first-degree murder charges, according to the sheriff's office. She was arrested Saturday when officers responded to the home in the 0-100 block of S. Derbyshire for a well-being check at 12:32 a.m.

Police said first responders forced entry into the home Martin shared with her parents after an unresponsive female was seen on the kitchen floor. According to police, investigating officers located Anne and David Martin, both unresponsive inside the home. Police said the elderly couple was pronounced dead at the scene by Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics.

While examining the two victims, officers said they were met by Deborah Martin. She was taken into custody and later brought to the police station for questioning, police said.

According to police, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office examined the victims and determined both died as a result of several stab wounds.

Felony murder charges against Deborah Martin were approved by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office as a result of an investigation by police and Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) Forensic Technicians.
