Walker Sworn In For First Full Term In IL Senate

Mark Walker (D-Arlington Heights) became a state senator last year following Ann Gillespie's appointment to a new position.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — While State Senator Mark Walker (D-Arlington Heights) has been in the position since filling a vacancy last May, he has now been sworn in for an election win. Walker, became a state senator for the 27th District following Ann Gillespie's appointment as acting director of the Department of Insurance by JB Pritzker in April 2024.

In November's general election, the former Illinois House representative defeated Republican Tom Schlenhardt for a seat in the 104th General Assembly. As senator for the 27th District, Walker represents a portion of the Northwest suburbs, including Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights and Rolling Meadows.

"There is much work ahead to bring us all together, build on our state’s economic potential and ensure fiscal stability through balanced budgets," Walker said. "I look forward to tackling these challenges and continuing to represent my community in Springfield."
