Wheeling Township Swears In New and Returning Officials
The supervisor and four trustees begin first terms; clerk starts third term. All were sworn in by Honorable Jack Costello on May 19, 2025.

During a ceremony held on May 19, 2025, Wheeling Township welcomed a new era of leadership as Supervisor Maria Zeller Brauer and four newly elected Trustees—John Geier, Lorri Grainawi, Austin Mejdrich and Sheri Williams—were officially sworn into office by the Honorable Jack Costello. Clerk Joanna Gauza who ran unopposed in the April 1 election, also took the oath of office and will begin serving in her third term as Clerk. All individuals were elected to four-year terms which will end in May of 2029.
The ceremony was attended by Cook County and State elected officials, in addition to friends and family members of the Township Board to show their support.
“We’re excited to get to work, to ensure we not only showcase – but also expand upon the great work that the Township is already doing to serve our community members,” said Supervisor Zeller Brauer. “Our Board and I will continually work to meet the needs of our residents and increase services when and if they are needed.”

The newly elected officials bring diverse backgrounds to public service. Supervisor Zeller Brauer has more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit management, and Geier’s career has been spent working in community mental health and substance abuse treatment. Additionally, Grainawi serves on the Board of National Alliance for Mental Illness NWSC and is co-president of a group that advocates for housing for those with disabilities. Mejdrich is the Director of Legislative Affairs for the Illinois Department of Insurance, and Williams holds a Doctorate in Audiology and works at a medical practice.
Supervisor Zeller Brauer added that it is a privilege to serve the Township community and looks forward to the Board working together to ensure thoughtful growth, responsible governance, and that responsive services continue to be provided to Township residents.
