Woman Trapped In Burning Car Dies From Injuries: Hoffman Estates PD
One of the vehicles in a two-car crash left the roadway, drove into a tree and caught fire, trapping the two occupants, according to police.
HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — A 23-year-old Aurora woman has died from injuries sustained in a Sunday afternoon car crash in which she was trapped in her burning vehicle. Following the crash, Jenny Evaristo was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center, but due to the extent of her injuries, was airlifted to the burn unit at Loyola University Medical Center. Hoffman Estates police were told Monday she had died from the injuries.
At around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Hoffman Estate police and firefighters responded to a two-car crash near the intersection of W. Golf and Bartlett roads. Witnesses on scene told dispatch that both cars involved had left the roadway, with one striking a tree and catching fire, trapping the occupants, a male and female.
Police said bystanders were able to rescue the male from the burning vehicle, but were unable to get the woman out. Upon arrival, Hoffman Estate firefighters were able to extricate the woman, later identified as Evaristo. The two were taken to the hospital.

Both occupants of the second vehicle were taken to Lutheran General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the crash investigation is ongoing, with no charges filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
