Woman Uses Mom's Walker To Fight Off Mother's Day Intruder

A 44-year-old Hanover Park man is accused of running around the women's home with a large butcher knife.

WHEELING, IL — A woman used her 85-year-old mother's walker to fend off a man who allegedly threatened them with a large butcher knife in their Wheeling home on Mother's Day. Gregorio Salgado, 44, of Hanover Park, was charged with home invasion, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, and he was ordered held on $750,000 bail Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to prosecutors, Salgado allegedly ran through the women's home wielding a knife after getting in through an unlocked screen door Sunday, May 13, the report stated. He's then accused of jumping on a window bench and saying, "They’re going to kill me," before eventually holding the knife near the older woman, the report added.

That's when the woman's daughter hit Salgado with her mother's walker, which she had needed after a recent hospital visit, the report stated. Salgado fled the home, and police apprehended him after he initially resisted arrest, the report added.
