Cops Fatally Shoot Armed Suspect In Aurora After Deadly Home Invasion Shooting: Sheriff
A male victim was shot to death in Plano before police pursued a vehicle believed to be involved into Aurora, and fatally shot the suspect.
PLANO, IL — A man died after suffering multiple gunshots Friday evening in a home invasion in Plano, and officials said they fatally shot the suspect after a police chase to Aurora.
Plano Police and the Kendall County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired in the 3800 block of Pratt Street just before 6:45 p.m. They found the victim, 70-year-old Russell Novak, with multiple gunshot wounds.
First responders attempted life-saving efforts, but say Novak died of his injuries.

Police and deputies said officers found a car believed to be involved in the incident and began a pursuit that ended in the area of Route 34 and Eola Road in Aurora.
The sheriff's office said that the driver got out of the car with a firearm and pointed it at a deputy. The deputy and a Plano officer both discharged their firearms "to protect the people present in the area and themselves," the sheriff's officer said.

Video from the scene showed bullet holes in the side of a green SUV, according to ABC Chicago.
The as-yet unidentified suspect was transported to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora, where they were pronounced deceased.
No officers were injured, according to Plano police and deputies, who said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Illinois State Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
Sheriff Dwight Baird and Plano Police Chief Norm Allison both released statements on the shooting:
“First and foremost, the loss of any life is tragic, and my thoughts are with their friends and loved ones as they mourn this terrible loss," Baird said. "I believe transparency is critical, and an independent third-party investigation is absolutely necessary, which is why I requested the Illinois State Police conduct this investigation. I also want to say, that I am extremely proud of the way my deputies and the officers from the surrounding law enforcement agencies responded during this incident. I am grateful they responded swiftly, putting themselves in harm’s way, to safeguard our community.”
"This is a tragic situation for everyone involved," Allison said. "Since this is a multi-jurisdictional incident, many police resources will be utilized to ensure the utmost professionalism and thoroughness in the investigation. Personally, I am proud of the officers and deputies who attempted to provide life-saving efforts to victims and also put themselves in harm’s way on a moment's notice to protect the public."
