5 Aurora Girls Win National Soccer Championship

The team of five girls, ages 7 and 8, clinched the 3v3 Bownet Soccer National Championship title in Florida.

AURORA, IL — Five young Aurora residents clinched a national soccer title in November.

Aztec Girls 360, comprised of five 7- and 8-year-old girls, won the 3v3 Bownet Soccer National Championship Nov. 30 in Panama City, Florida, overtaking Sting ETX, from Harvey, Texas, by 3-0.

The victory ranks the team fifth in the United States and second in Illinois, according to the City of Aurora. The ranking is based on points earned from winning both individual matches and tournaments throughout the country.

The team consists of Adilene Mata, 8; Isabella Rios, 7; Jade Santillan, 7; Athalia Villa, 8; and Sofia Ordaz, 8. Aztec Girlz 630 was established in 2022 as part of the Federacion Azteca Futbol Organization.

Mayor John Laesch honored the team at Tuesday night's Committee of the Whole meeting.
