13,565 Coronavirus Cases, 78 Deaths In Kane Co. During November

Kane County's coronavirus case total rose nearly 75 percent in November, which was the county's second-deadliest month of the pandemic.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Coronavirus cases in Kane County exploded during November, with the county’s case total rising nearly 75 percent in just 30 days, public health data shows.

Kane County had 18,390 total coronavirus cases Oct. 31, which grew to 31,955 cases by Nov. 30 — an increase of 13,565 cases — according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Cases grew at a record rate between Oct. 27 and Nov. 12, when the county’s seven-day rolling average of new cases hit an all-time high of 595 cases. That’s nearly three times higher than at any point during the pandemic’s first seven and a half months.

The seven-day average dropped to about 342 cases Nov. 30, when public health officials confirmed 188 new cases — the county’s lowest single-day total in six weeks.

Kane County hit several milestones during November, surpassing the 20,000- and 30,000-case marks, while also moving past 400 deaths.

Five months passed between the county's first case and its 10,000th case, which was recorded Aug. 13.

Kane County hit 20,000 cases Nov. 5, less than three months later. The county recorded its 30,000th case less than three weeks later on Nov. 25, public health data shows.

Before Oct. 28, Kane County had only twice confirmed more than 300 new cases in a single day. It has recorded at least 300 cases on 31 of the 35 days since.

Officials confirmed 578 new cases Dec. 1, taking Kane County's total to 32,533 cases. More than 41 percent of those cases were recorded in November, according to the state’s data.

May remains the county's deadliest month of the pandemic, with 123 deaths from coronavirus-related conditions.

As of Dec. 1, 436 Kane County residents have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in March. About 56 percent of those deaths — 244 — have been linked to long-term-care facilities in the county, the state’s data shows.

All 11 coronavirus-management regions in Illinois are under Tier 3 restrictions, which order some non-essential businesses to close and many stores to enforce capacity limits, in addition to indoor service bans at bars and restaurants.

A region can move back to Tier 2 mitigations if its positivity rate drops below 12 percent for three consecutive days, if it has more than 20 percent of hospital beds open, and if it sees a sustained drop in hospitalizations for coronavirus-related illnesses.

The positivity rate in Region 8 dropped from an all-time high of 16 percent on Nov. 13 to 12.7 percent Nov. 28, the most recent day for which testing data is available.

Kane County's positivity rate is down from 18.4 percent to 15 percent over the same period, public health data shows.
