KANE COUNTY, IL — As people all over the country reveled in Thanksgiving celebrations Thursday — or not — the coronavirus pandemic claimed five more lives in Kane County.
Public health officials reported another death from COVID-19 on Friday, taking Kane County’s death toll to 429 since the start of the pandemic, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The county has recorded 74 COVID-19 deaths through the first 27 days of November, more than in the previous three and a half months combined, the state’s data shows.

A region can move back to Tier 2 if its positivity rate drops below 12 percent for three consecutive days, has more than 20 percent of hospital beds open, and sees a sustained drop in hospitalizations for coronavirus-related illnesses.

The positivity rate in Region 8 dropped from 16 percent on Nov. 13 to 13.7 percent Friday, according to public health data. Kane County's positivity rate has dropped from 18.4 percent to 16.3 percent over the same period.
