AURORA, IL — The city of Aurora passed 5,000 coronavirus cases Tuesday, marking another milestone as the pandemic continues throughout the U.S.

Almost 4,300 residents in the Kane County portion of the city have tested positive, with residents between the ages of 20 and 50 representing about two-thirds of those cases, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Aurora’s 7-day rolling average of new coronavirus cases dropped from an all-time high of 103.5 in mid-May to just 5.8 cases on July 8, the state's data shows. Over the next five weeks, the average gradually rose to 21 cases, but it dropped to 10.8 by Tuesday.
