Aurora Hospital Named Among Best For Maternity Care By New Report

The Aurora hospital was one of 16 in Illinois to receive a best-performing ranking for maternity care.

AURORA, IL — A hospital in Aurora is among 16 in Illinois that ranked among the best hospitals for maternity care, according to a new report.

U.S. News & World Report released Dec. 5 its ranking for the 2023-24 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. Twenty-six Illinois hospitals were recognized for providing quality maternity care, with 16 of those considered best-performing, Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora among them.

The report looks at 680 hospitals nationwide and serves as a guide for parents deciding where their baby will be born. Each hospital listed in the survey received a scorecard describing its performance based on a checklist of items parents look for when choosing where to have their baby.

Jennifer Winston, a health data scientist for U.S. News, said the top hospitals in the survey are those with a "high performing" designation for care given to patients with uncomplicated pregnancies. These hospitals had Cesarean Section rates of 26 percent or lower and newborn complication rates of 37 percent or lower, Winston explained in a news release.

Nearby to Aurora, Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva and Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin also received the high-performing designation.
