Aurora Kidnapper Faces Prison Sentence Up To 7 Years: Mosser

The 19-year-old grabbed a girl, 17, around the chest, covered her mouth and forcefully dragged her down an alleyway, prosecutors allege.

AURORA, IL — The 19-year-old Aurora man who police say kidnapped a 17-year-old girl on May 22 is looking at a prison sentence of up to 7 years if convicted, according to prosecutors at the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

Daniel J. Raines, of the 200 block of East Galena Boulevard, is facing four felony charges: kidnapping, aggravated battery in a public way, attempted kidnapping, and battery.

Around 2:15 p.m. May 22, the victim contacted Aurora police to report she was kidnapped by a man, later identified by police as Raines, near Illinois Avenue and Orchard Avenue. A description of the man was broadcast to police, who located him at about 3:20 p.m. near North Avenue and River Street, Patch reported.

Officials said the girl was walking in a nearby neighborhood when a man, unknown to her, started following her. As she was walking on the sidewalk in the 700 block of Orchard Avenue, he grabbed her around the chest from behind, covered her mouth with his hand and dragged her down an alleyway before she escaped, prosecutors said.

"In doing so, he made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature and caused bodily harm to the victim," KCSA officials wrote in a news release.

If convicted, Raines faces a sentence of between 3-7 years of imprisonment on the felony kidnapping charge, between 2-5 years on the aggravated battery and attempted kidnapping charges, and probation on any or all charges, officials said.

Raines is being detained in the Kane County jail while his case is pending. His next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday.
