Aurora Man Charged For Pointing Gun At Off-Duty Officer: Cops
The 25-year-old suspect from Aurora is facing felony charges, including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man who pointed a gun at an off-duty police officer has been charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault. Aurora Police said Salvador Hernandez, 25, of the 500 block of E. Galena Boulevard, was also charged for not having a valid driver's license. All the charges were secured by the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
An Aurora officer was driving through the area of Galena Boulevard and Stolp Avenue Dec. 30 at around 11:30 a.m. when she was almost hit by a Jeep Liberty driven by Hernandez, who quickly changed lanes. Hernandez then swiftly cut back into the previous lane, police said. The officer pulled around the Jeep, rolled down her window, and when she asked what the driver was doing, he pointed a semi-automatic gun at her and drove away.
She then pulled over and called 911 with the Jeep's license plate number. Officers located the vehicle at Hernandez's home and surrounded the building, according to police. He was taken into custody after crawling out of a rear window.

With a search waiver for the apartment and the Jeep, police said they found the 9 mm pistol in the home that was previously pointed at the officer, according to the police. The report said two other men— ages 25 and 28— were also in the vehicle with Hernandez at the time of the incident, and were not charged.
The charges against Hernandez are not proof of guilt. He is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
