Aurora Police Warn Of Ruse Entry Burglaries
Officials shared tips to help locals avoid being a victim of ruse entry — or distraction — burglaries.
AURORA, IL — Aurora police are warning residents to beware of scammers using ruse entry to burglarize homes.
Also known as distraction burglaries, ruse entries involve people using deception to gain entry into homes, often to steal cash or valuables, police shared in an alert on Facebook Tuesday morning.
Officials said criminals often target senior citizens during daylight hours, with one pretending to be a delivery driver, utility worker or tree trimmer to distract the homeowner outside while another sneaks inside.
