Aurora Police Will Intensify Speed Enforcement In July

Police will have extra attention on neighborhoods, near schools and along secondary roads where speed-related crashes are more frequent.

AURORA, IL — The Aurora Police Department will intensify its enforcement of posted speed limits for the majority of July.

From July 8-31, the department and more than 200 Illinois law enforcement agencies are partnering for the statewide effort to reduce speeding, according to a news release. Drivers should also expect increased enforcement of other traffic violations.

Aurora police will conduct targeted speed enforcement throughout the city, with extra attention on neighborhoods, near schools and along secondary roads where speed-related crashes are more frequent. Drivers caught speeding should expect a ticket, officials said.

"Over the past few years, we've seen an increase in careless and risky driving," Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas said in a statement. "Speeding continues to be one of the most dangerous habits on the road. Speed limits aren’t just suggestions — they're laws meant to protect everyone."

The enforcement is part of the "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign, paid for using federal safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
