Aurora Teen to be Remembered at Service on Sunday

The 18-year-old died of a gunshot wound on Monday

Services for Jared Peters will be held on Sunday at Aurora's Healy Chapel.

A visitation will be held from noon to 4 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life.

Peters was born in Aurora in July 1998. According to his obituary, he is survived by his mother, Lynette S. Wegman; brother, Keith Murray; girlfriend, Baylee Hayden; grandparents, Terry Wegman and Bonnie Wegman; aunt, Jennifer (Chris) Showerman; cousins, Ryan Showerman, Kyle Showerman and Sophia Walls.

According to the Beacon News, Peters was a graduate of West Aurora High School. Authorities have determined that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A family friend told the Beacon News that services would be open to the public. As of Friday afternoon, a fundraiser for his family had nearly reached its $15,000 goal. The funds will help offset costs of the memorial service and lost wages for his mother, according to the fundraiser website.
