Aurora Woman Caught With Gun Up Her Sleeve: Cops

Aurora Police Department says patrol is the "backbone of taking illegally possessed guns off the streets."

AURORA, IL — An Oct. 28 vehicle stop led to the discovery of a loaded .40 caliber handgun and marijuana in the car. Shortly before 4 p.m., a patrol officer noticed a car with very dark tinted windows and no front license plate. He pulled the vehicle over at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Spencer Street and questioned the 24-year-old driver from Aurora.

The officer learned that not only was the driver on parole, he was a documented gang member. He had two passengers in the car, a 20-year-old woman from Lake in the Hills and a 19-year old woman, Mayra Lazcano, of the 300 block of E. Illinois Ave. in Aurora.

The parole discovery led the officer to search the car, where he found a gun hidden in Lazcano’s sleeve and pot under a seat. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Lazcano with four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon; she is currently in jail. The driver was issued a citation for having illegally tinted windows and no front plate. Neither the driver nor the 20-year-old woman were criminally charged.

Any charges against Lazcano are not proof of guilt. She is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the burden of the state to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
