Coronavirus Cases Climb Significantly In Kane Co. During August
Despite a sizeable jump in new coronavirus cases last month, the county saw a large drop in related deaths, when compared to June and July.
KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County recorded more than 2,100 positive coronavirus tests in August, an increase of more than 50 percent over the previous two months, according to public health data.
Statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health show 2,142 Kane County residents tested positive for the coronavirus last month, up from 1,320 in June and 1,404 in July.

Despite the significant increase in new cases, the county saw a large drop in coronavirus-related deaths in August, when compared to the previous two months.
Public health data shows 14 Kane County residents died after testing positive for the coronavirus, down from 29 deaths in July and 77 in June.

Kane County officials reported nearly 4,700 coronavirus cases and 123 related deaths in May.
More than 200 people tested positive for the coronavirus over the Labor Day weekend, bringing the county’s total to 11,807 cases, as of Tuesday. County officials have recorded 317 coronavirus-related deaths, according to public health data.
The county’s total includes 4,358 cases in Aurora, 2,684 in Elgin and 1,126 in Carpentersville, as well as 887 in St. Charles, 563 in South Elgin, 404 in Geneva, 316 in North Aurora and 313 in Batavia. All other municipalities have reported less than 200 coronavirus cases, as of Tuesday.
The positivity rate in Region 8 — made up of Kane and DuPage counties — has fallen over the past week after climbing steadily throughout the month of August. The region’s positivity rate hit an all-time high of 6.2 percent Aug. 31. It stands at 5.4 percent, as of Saturday.

State officials have placed new coronavirus restrictions on businesses and activities in Region 4 (Metro East) and Region 7 (Will and Kankakee counties) after those regions recorded positivity rates of more than 8 percent for three consecutive days.
State officials will also implement new restrictions if a region reports daily positivity-rate increases seven times within 10 days, along with an increase in hospital admissions due to coronavirus-related symptoms or a drop in capacity in intensive care units.

Officials from Region 8, also known as the West Suburban region, have reported positivity-rate increases three times in the past 10 days, as well as two upticks in hospital admissions over the same period.
Fifty-one percent of Region 8's ICU units and 37 percent of medical/surgical beds are currently available, well above the state's 20 percent threshold for new restrictions.
