Coroner IDs People Killed In I-88 Crash In North Aurora

Two Chicago residents were killed Saturday night on the westbound interstate, the Kane County Coroner's Office said.

NORTH AURORA, IL — The Kane County Coroner's Office revealed the identities of the two people killed in a Saturday night crash on Interstate 88 in North Aurora.

Chicago residents Diego Nava Torres, 32, and Samantha Ortiz, 33, were pronounced dead following the collision around 8:10 p.m. near Mitchell Road on the westbound interstate.

The crash involved two vehicles, Patch reported.

Autopsy results indicate the preliminary cause of death for the pair to be consistent with multiple traumatic injuries due to a car crash, the coroner's office said Monday evening.

External exams, including X-rays, were completed on Saturday, and forensic autopsies were performed on Monday. The coroner's office also submitted toxicology samples to a forensic laboratory for analysis.

"The Coroner, Dr. Monica Silva, and her staff, extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased," a news release reads.

The coroner's office continues investigating the circumstances of the death along with Illinois State Police.
