Disability Parking Enforcement Led To 15 Tickets, 9 Confiscations: APD

More than 100 cars were checked for proper disability parking placard use during Aurora police and the Secretary of State's citywide detail.

AURORA, IL — Aurora police wrote 15 citations to people misusing disability parking in Aurora last week, officials said.

The Aurora Police Department's traffic division teamed up with the Illinois Secretary of State for a citywide Persons with Disabilities Parking Enforcement detail to ensure designated parking spaces remain accessible to those who need them.

Officers patrolled "key shopping areas during the holiday rush," checking 110 vehicles for proper placard use. The result was 15 citations written for unauthorized use of disability parking and nine placards confiscated for misuse, officials said Wednesday.

"Our presence was met with gratitude from shoppers, who appreciated both the added safety and the commitment to accessible parking," officials said.

The initiative highlighted the department's ongoing efforts to "support and protect every member of our community," according to a news release.
