Former Metea Valley Choir Teacher Sexually Assaulted Student: Police
Nathan Bramstedt faces a minimum of 36 years in prison after prosecutors said he assaulted a then-17-year-old student several times in 2019.

AURORA, IL — A former choir teacher at Metea Valley High School faces 12 criminal sexual assault charges after prosecutors allege that he had inappropriate contact with a then-17-year-old student on multiple occasions on school property in 2019, the DuPage County State’s Attorney announced on Saturday.
Nathan Bramstedt, 42, of Oswego, appeared in bond court on Saturday after prosecutors said that an investigation launched by the Aurora Police Department and DuPage County Children’s Center determined that the former music instructor sexually assaulted the victim over several months in 2019 before the person came forward last year, authorities said.
State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said that between February and June 2019, Bramstedt sexually assaulted the student numerous times at locations around the school, Berlin said in a news release. The victim reported the abuse to authorities last year, which led to Bramstedt being charged over the weekend.

“Teachers are role models who students look up to and in whom parents place a great amount of trust,” Berlin said. “It is alleged that Mr. Bramstedt used his position of trust and authority to seduce his victim into giving him what he wanted. If the allegations against Mr. Bramstedt are true, he violated that trust in the worst possible way.”
Bramstedt was arrested and taken into custody Friday afternoon, Berlin said. He has been charged with nine counts of criminal sexual assault – position of trust/authority (Class 1 felony) and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse – position of trust/authority (Class 2 felony).

If found guilty of all counts, sentencing guidelines dictate that imposed sentences on the Class 1 Felonies must run consecutively, thus exposing Bramstedt to a minimum of 36 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
His bond was set at $500,000 with 10 percent to apply. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 2 for arraignment in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.
