AURORA, IL — The coronavirus testing site at the Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora is set to close Sept. 30, more than five months after conducting its first test.
The shopping center’s property owner decided against renewing a lease that has allowed the Illinois Department of Public Health to conduct coronavirus tests in the parking lot since April, the Kane County Health Department told Patch on Monday.

Despite not renewing the lease, the property owners thanked local and state health officials for working to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in the area.
“Through our collaborative efforts, thousands of citizens were tested and all of us can take credit in knowing that we contributed towards helping our community navigate through a challenging period,” the property owners told the Kane County Health Department, according to officials.

The Illinois Department of Public Health opened the Chicago Premium Outlets testing site five months ago, with hundreds of tests conducted nearly every day since. The site was the fourth drive-thru testing location opened by Illinois officials as the state worked to make tests more available to residents in the first weeks of the pandemic.
In addition to the Aurora site, the IDPH operates 10 community-based testing sites where anyone can receive a test. Dozens of other testing coronavirus testing locations can be found here.
