Man Hospitalized After Overnight Blaze At Fallen Oak Trail Home: Aurora FD

Three residents and their dog evacuated the house before firefighters arrived. One was taken to a hospital for burns and smoke inhalation.

AURORA, IL — One person was hospitalized after a house in the 900 block of Fallen Oak Trail caught fire Tuesday night, the Aurora Fire Department said.

Three residents and their dog were able to evacuate before firefighters arrived around 10:42 p.m. Aurora police reported flames visible from a second-floor window, officials said, leading to the response being upgraded to a second alarm while a total of 26 firefighters were on their way to the single-family home.

Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack, advancing hose lines through the second floor and bringing the fire under control within seven minutes of arrival, according to a news release. Other crews ventilated the roof, secured utilities and confirmed no one was inside.

Paramedics treated one resident, a 36-year-old man, on the scene before taking him to a hospital for burns on his hands and smoke inhalation, officials said. No other injuries were reported.

Fire and smoke damage rendered the house uninhabitable, officials said. The homeowner requested the residence be boarded up.

"Our crews arrived quickly, contained the fire to the second floor, and kept it from spreading further," Aurora Fire Chief David McCabe said in a statement. "It's a reminder that fire moves fast, so working smoke alarms and early calls to 911 truly make a difference."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
