Man Killed, Woman In Critical Condition After Car Crashes Into Tree: Aurora Police
Both people were ejected from the car after the collision Wednesday night in Aurora, officials said.
AURORA, IL — A man died and a woman was critically injured after a car crashed into a tree Wednesday night in the 600 block of Spruce Street in Aurora, police said.
Aurora police and firefighters responded at about 11:21 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls about the collision. First responders found the man, 24, and the 23-year-old woman ejected from a gray Honda Accord, according to a news release.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in critical condition, officials said.

The preliminary investigation indicates the sedan was traveling westbound on Spruce Street at "a high rate of speed" when it veered off the roadway and hit a tree, according to police.
"This is an unimaginable tragedy for these families and for everyone impacted," Police Chief Matt Thomas said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to them as they navigate this difficult time. We ask everyone to take a moment to drive carefully, slow down, and stay alert — even small decisions behind the wheel can make all the difference."

The road was closed for several hours overnight while the Aurora Police Department's traffic division reconstructed the scene.
The Kane County Coroner's Office is conducting the autopsy. Police said the man's identity will be revealed by the coroner's office once his next of kin is notified.
