Mobile Coronavirus Test Units Coming To Aurora Neighborhoods

Officials are sending mobile units to the 60505 ZIP code, which accounts for more than 40 percent of Aurora's 17,000-plus coronavirus cases.

AURORA, IL — Mobile coronavirus testing units are opening up in several Aurora neighborhoods for residents in areas of the city that have been hit hardest by the pandemic.

City officials are working with the Illinois Department of Public Health to make testing more accessible to residents in the 60505 ZIP code, which accounts for more than 40 percent of the city’s cases, according to a news release.

The IDPH will set up free testing sites for any resident who wants a test, whether they are experiencing symptoms. The sites will offer tests via a drive-thru method and to residents who walk to the sites.

Tests will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of ALDI and the Fox Valley Flea Market at 1500 E. New York St.

The East Aurora Flea Market, 175 N. State St., and the Supermercado La Chiquita, 651 Ashland Ave., will host a mobile testing units from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

Residents can also get free coronavirus tests at the IDPH’s permanent testing site across Farnsworth Avenue from the Chicago Premium Outlets. That testing site is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day.

Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin urged residents to continue following public health guidelines, wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

“As we wait for the continued rollout of vaccines, we must continue to stay focused on mitigation efforts,” Irvin said. “Getting a COVID-19 test, while following strict health safety guidelines, is a key way to help to protect our city.”
