AURORA, IL — An Aurora police officer shot and killed an “aggressive” dog Sunday afternoon after it charged at them while responding to a 911 call on Aurora’s East Side, according to the department.
Three officers were in the 1600 block of Linden Park Lane around 4 p.m. Sunday after callers reported a fight in that area, police said. After officers found a man they believed to be involved in the reported fight, they asked him to secure his dog inside so they could speak to him, police said.

An officer shot and killed the dog, “fearing for their safety,” police said in a news release. The dog’s owner told police that the dog was aggressive and almost bit him earlier that day, police said.
The Aurora Police Department said it will conduct a use-of-force investigation to determine if the officer followed the department’s policies when shooting the dog.
