Residents React To Aurora PD Snow Photo: 'It's Way Too Soon'
It wasn't long before police gave in and replaced snow with a rainbow. "[Whoever] runs this page is hilarious," someone said in response.
AURORA, IL — Aurora Police Department's Facebook page is a place to keep up with crime alerts and local news. It's also a place where officers share photos that occasionally spark followers' reactions.
On a warm and sunny first day of November — a day that in previous years has been met with snow on the ground — a post appeared from APD around 2 p.m. It wasn't about a shooting or road closure. It was an updated cover photo that depicts police headquarters blanketed in snow.
In the first two hours after the photo was shared, the post received almost 300 reactions and more than 40 comments. It's likely the photo also prompted some to check their weather apps to find Aurora's Tuesday forecast to be sunny, with a high of 69 degrees. In fact, temperatures could get as high as 74 degrees — with no chances of snow in sight — by Thursday.

Most who left comments on the post shared the same sentiments: it's too soon for snow to grace a cover photo.
It's unclear why police first chose the snow photo as the first image you see when you click on the department's Facebook page. But it seems most social media users who engaged with the post got a good laugh.

"Slow down boys [in] blue," one person said. "Don't rush Mother Nature."
"Too soon. Show us your mums first," another wrote.
"This picture is the first controversial thing I've seen put out by the Aurora Police Department," one Facebook user quipped, complimenting the photo while saying it's "way too early in the season."
"I hope that picture is from last year," someone commented with a laughing emoticon, while another said, "At least wait till Thanksgiving before you decorate for Christmas."
One person appreciated the department's sentiment, saying, "Great way to remind people that the snowy road conditions will be here sooner than we realize. Be prepared to change your bad summer habit for the more cautious winter habits."
It's almost as if the Aurora Police Department is channeling the energy of 93.9 LITE FM, which made the switch to Christmas music Tuesday, one day after Halloween and nearly two months before Dec. 25.
The general consensus reached the police department because by Wednesday morning, the snow photo was gone. Replacing it is a picture showing a squad car framed by a full rainbow.
"Alright we heard you… the [snow emoticon] background was too soon but the first day of snow it’s coming back," police said in a caption accompanying their new sunny background.
This change came with its own flood of laughs. This time, in the three hours since the rainbow image appeared, it received about 1,000 reactions and nearly 50 comments.
"[Whoever] runs this page is hilarious," one person said.
"Ooohh see this is better, this says we're still enforcing tickets but we’ll see you at thanksgiving dinner," someone else said, followed by a laughing face.
"So much better! Not looking forward to the snow and black ice. Let's savor the last bit of sunshine and somewhat okay temps while we can," another Facebook user commented.
