Scammers Dupe Elderly Couple; Get $6K Posing As Grandson, Lawyer

Phone swindlers targeted the Aurora couple Oct. 16.

AURORA, IL — An elderly Aurora couple gave around $6,000 to a caller claiming to be their grandson's lawyer. On Oct. 16, the scammer convinced them to buy gift cards and read the card numbers over the phone in order to pay for court costs. A clerk at an Oswego store caught on and called the police.
