US 'Sinful Cities' List: Aurora Ranks Low In Vanity & Lust

The City of Lights is ranked ninth from last on the list. Read on to find out what makes a city sinful.

AURORA, IL — Saints and sinners, feast your eyes on America's most sinful cities list, released Monday by Wallethub. Believe it or not, Aurora is ranked ninth to last on the least sinful list due to its low rankings for lust and vanity. The online personal finance website has mapped 182 cities through 32 key indicators of evil deeds. Violent crimes per capita, excessive drinking and potential cheaters, to name a few.

Wallethub estimates society bears a $6 billion cost for gambling addiction, mostly in criminal justice and health care. Smoking is $300 billion. Topping the list, unsurprisingly, is Sin City itself, Las Vegas, Nevada. It's followed by Florida cities Orlando and Miami, then St. Louis and North Las Vegas.

On the bottom end of the spectrum is South Burlington, Vermont; Pearl City, Hawaii; Brownsville, Texas; West Valley City, Utah; and Port St. Lucie, Florida.

To crunch the numbers, Wallethub measured weighted metrics over seven categories: anger and hatred, jealousy, excesses and vices, greed, lust, vanity and laziness. Aurora ranked second to last in the "lust" category, which includes the number of Ashley Madison users per capita, adult entertainment establishments, teen birth rate and active Tinder users.

Aurora ranked No. 96 in the "greed" category, which was determined by number of casinos per capita, charitable donations, and share of population with gambling disorders.

Other highlights on the list of cities with vices include Madison, Wisconsin as the city with most excessive drinking, and Jackson, Mississippi with the highest percentage of adults not exercising. Tanning salons, average time spent watching TV, fast food establishments per capita and hate groups were among the metrics taken into consideration to make the list.
