When Is Daylight Saving Time Over, Again?

A friendly reminder to set your clocks back Saturday night before bed.

AURORA, IL — Daylight saving time ends Sunday Nov. 5 at 2 a.m., so get ready for the sun to set a bit earlier. This time change is often preferred to the "spring forward" reset because in the fall, we gain an hour of sleep. Daylight savings time legislation has seen a few ups and downs since it was first passed into law in the early 20th century. Lawmakers all over the country have tried to make daylight saving a permanent fixture. One bill even floated around the state legislature earlier this year, which was last re-referred to the house rules committee late March.

Be careful during this change, even though we're "falling back." Some studies show an hour of time difference can throw off our body's rhythm more than we think, as illustrated in this American College of Cardiology study. The time change is also a handy reminder to switch the batteries in smoke detectors.

The energy-saving merits of the time change have been proven to be insubstantial, at in some cases, worse for consumption. But, hey, this is the closest we'll come to traveling through time. How are you spending your extra hour?
