College Of Lake County: Barbara Richardson Remembered As A Founding Member Of CLC

College of Lake County (CLC) is saddened to announce Barbara Richardson, one of seven employees involved in the founding of the college, died at the age of 93. 

“Barbara was a dear friend of the College of Lake County, serving as one of its first employees,” said CLC Trustee Emeritus Dr. William M. Griffin. “The connections she developed and fostered among members of the college community were significant and long-lasting. We will remember her with deep respect and admiration, as she brought what she learned from experiences at CLC into her roles on the CLC Foundation Board, Lake County’s government and other community organizations.” 

Richardson was hired at CLC in 1968 and worked at the college until 1976. She was elected Lake County coroner where she served the community for many years.  

During her time as coroner, Richardson developed an exceptional program to discourage teens from drinking and driving, especially during prom. She also won awards for her advocacy of organ donation. 

Richardson served on the CLC Foundation board for 30 years, starting in 1984. She was honored with emeritus status in 2014. 

Alongside her work, Richardson was very active in the Lake County community. She helped to start a group for women interested in government and spoke often about being a female politician. Other roles she served in the community include being a member of the Grayslake Village Board, a board member for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America and as a volunteer for Warren-Newport Library.
