2016 Batavia Windmill City Fest: Weekend Lineup

Are you taking part in this weekend's festivities? Here's everything you need to know.

Windmill City Festival has long been a staple in Batavia, featuring countless activities, funnel cakes and lively sources of entertainment.

Whether you visit the carnival, compete in a 5K, participate in the pet parade or dive in to an ice cream eating contest, every member of your family is sure to find fun. This year’s festival is from July 7-10 in downtown Batavia near Houston and Lincoln streets. Admission is free.

SATURDAY, JULY 9

7 a.m. to Noon

Batavia Farmer's Market at River Street

  • Enjoy the changing bounty of the season in downtown Batavia with vegetables, fruit plants, cut flowers and baked goods from local growers. Presented by Batavia Main Street.

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Craft Show and Flea Market along the Riverwalk

  • Enjoy a day of outdoor shopping as you browse through more than 30 vendor booths.

9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Touch a Truck in the Turn-Around Parking Lot

  • Children of all ages will have a chance to explore various vehicles.

10 a.m.

Pet Parade

  • Invite your furry, or not-so furry friend to this unique parade! The first 50 registered participants will receive a complimentary "doggie bag" to take home.

11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Food Booths Open

Noon to 11 p.m.

Carnival and Beer Garden Open

  • Purchase a wristband for $25 and enjoy unlimited rides from noon to 4 p.m.

1 to 8 p.m.

Golf Challenge

  • (Ages 10+) - 5 Balls for $5! Take your shot at chipping a golf ball onto a green floating in the Depot Museum Pond. Win exciting prizes for landing on the green and for making a hole-in-one. Sponsored by Top Golf- Naperville.

Paddle & Electric Boats on the Riverwalk

  • Take a leisurely ride down the scenic Fox River in a four-person paddle boat or a two-person electric boat! Paddle Boats are $10 for 30 minutes and Electric Boats are $20 for 30 minutes.

3 p.m.

Diaper Derby

  • Enter your little one in this exciting "crawling race" for babies ages 6 to 15 months. Participants and their enthusiastic supporters need to register under the main tent at 2:30 p.m.

3 to 5 p.m.

Live Band Karaoke at the Main Stage

  • Anyone who remembers rocking out into their mom's microphone/hairbrush in front of the bathroom mirror when they were little knows a thing or two about working hard on their stage presence in private. Now that you're all grown up, it's time to take your passions out in to the open. Live band karaoke gives you the opportunity to perform like a true rockstar-with a live, energetic band behind you to back you up. Check out Live Band Karoke and rock on.

3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Sidewalk Chalk Drawing Contest in the South Riverwalk Plaza

  • Show off your artistic skills at the Sidewalk Chalk Drawing Contest! The School of Art will be hosting this free contest on Saturday, July 9 at 3:30 p.m. on the South Riverwalk Plaza. Participants of all ages are welcome to register at www.schoolofartchicago.com or on-site at the festival. Prizes will be awarded for “People‘s Choice” and “Best in Show.”

6 p.m.

Bags Tournament

  • The Batavia Parks Foundation is hosting a "Toss for a Cause" bags tournament for participants 14 years and older on Saturday, July 9 at 6:00 pm during Windmill City Festival. Two-person teams will play a minimum of three games and cash prizes will go to the top two teams. Register by filling out this form and calling 630-879-5235. The fee is $25 per team.

6 to 8 p.m.

The New Invaders

  • The New Invaders are an inspirational 60's rock review that will usher you back in time to the fabulous era of British Invasion, Motown and R&B, Roots Rock & Hard Rock, Surf and Psychedelic Rock, and Folk and Protest music. Climb aboard The New Invader's "Time Machine" as they take you back across the pond where the British Invasion began. Powerfully packed with an incredible sound and theatrical touch, The New Invaders roll out the red carpet with their classic style and repertoire of classic hit songs! Song after song, note for note, hold on to your seat as they take you back in time to an explosive and historical musical time period unlike any other!

9 to 11 p.m.

Arra

  • One of the best and largest drawing classic rock cover bands in the Chicagoland area for the past 2 decades. Performing the biggest hits by the biggest bands of all times with precision and excellence is the secret to their success. Their unparalleled vocal harmonies and incredible musicianship is also what has brought them to being one of the most sought after club and festival bands in the Chicago area markets. Arra has performed with some of the biggest bands and performers of all time. Kansas, 38 Special, Survivor, Rare Earth, The Ides of March, Steppenwolf, Paul Rodgers from Bad Company and Dennis DeYoung from Styx are just a few of the National acts that Arra has shared the stage with throughout the years. Arra was recently voted best classic rock band three years in a row in a major local music publication.

Chuck the Duck Race in the Turn-Around Parking Lot

  • New! Compete in this fun water activity to see who can send Chuck the Duck across the finish line first. Participants must be at least 5 years old.

1 to 3 p.m.

Miles Nielson

  • Nielsen has been a fixture of the Illinois roots rock and Americana scene for some time now. His music is romping in the vein of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Harry Nilsson, combining classic American sounds with some rock radio-friendly hooks.

2 p.m.

Ice Cream Eating Contest in the Turn-Around Parking Lot

  • A 100 foot gutter will house hundreds of ice cream scoops for participants to devour. Register near the Main Stage between 1:15 - 1:45 pm. Presented by Foltos Tonsorial Parlor and Batavia Creamery.

3 p.m.

Fire Hose Challenge in the Turn-Around Parking Lot

  • Compete in this exciting challenge to send a ball across the opposing team's line using fire hoses! Hosted by the Batavia Fire Department. Participants must be at least 5 years old.

4 to 6 p.m.

Hillbilly Rockstarz

  • Chicago's very own country super group, they specialize in covering the latest hits in country music including some of everyone's classic favorites. This band is always true to the original recording, so they always gotcha covered. Every show is a guaranteed good time...Hillbilly style! Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Johnny Cash, Kenny Chesney, Band Perry, Sara Evans, Billy Currington, Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, Big & Rich...these are just a few of the artists' songs that you will hear!
