BATAVIA, IL — A man carrying a box cutter was taken into custody after he tried breaking into a private residence early Tuesday and extensively damaging the property, police officials said.
Batavia police are investigating the incident that occurred around 2:17 a.m. in the 400 block of South Jefferson Street as an attempted home invasion.
Officers were dispatched to the residence after a caller reported that a "suspicious person" was "pounding" on the front door. At the property, police met the man and saw he had damaged the front door and a railing, officials said in a news release Wednesday.
