Bicycle Commission Replaced By Active Transportation Commission
One change made to the new commission is an increase in the number of members to nine mayoral appointments, up from five.

BATAVIA, IL — The Bicycle Commission in Batavia is no longer and has instead been replaced by the Active Transportation Advisory Commission.
Officials cited wanting to "positively impact active transportation in the community" as the reason for the change. City staff made the recommendation to encompass bicyclists, pedestrians and public transportation.
Batavia City Council voted Monday to appeal the existing commission and replace it with the updated one.

A few changes were made to the new commission. The Active Transportation Group will see an increase in members to nine mayoral appointments, up from five.
Mayor Jeffery Schielke is authorized to appoint four members to the commission's three-year terms. Existing members will be selected by lots for their appropriate terms, according to the city.

There will also be a process in place to determine the term for existing members, clarify the status of the city administrator's appointees and clarify start dates. The language throughout documents has also been updated to reflect active transportation terms.
