Black Sedan Not Related To Child Luring Incident: Batavia PD

Two kids, who said a man hiding within a bunch of trees tried to lure them with candy, mentioned a black sedan in their report to police.

BATAVIA, IL — A black sedan originally referenced in regard to a suspicious interaction between two children and a man at Prairie Lathem Park is not related to the incident, Batavia police said in an update.

Two elementary-aged children reported to Batavia police that they were playing at Prairie Lathem Park, near the southeast side of Louise White School, around 4:45–5:15 p.m. Nov. 1 when they heard a voice calling from a cluster of trees on the east side of the school.

A man, cloaked in a hood, called to the kids, attempting to lure them with promises of candy, Patch reported.

In their report, the children mentioned a black sedan leaving the Louise White School parking lot as they left the park.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the Nov. 8 update.

"Police would like to remind parents to discuss with their children what to do when confronted by strangers," officials said in the Nov. 8 news release.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the incident, including eyewitness accounts or surveillance videos, to contact investigators at 630-454-2500.
