BATAVIA, IL — An 8-year-old boy was struck by a car Tuesday afternoon while walking near North Kirk Road and East Wilson Street, Batavia police said.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and was in stable condition after suffering minor, non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Police were dispatched to the site of the crash — about 300 feet north of the intersection — at about 4:22 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicated the child was not crossing the road at a designated crosswalk.

The northbound lanes of Kirk Road were closed, and southbound was down to one lane at the railroad tracks, until about 5:10 p.m., according to Facebook alerts.
"The Batavia Police Department urges all pedestrians to prioritize safety by using designated crosswalks when crossing roadways," police said. "Additionally, please be sure to follow all traffic signs and signals to create a safer environment for everyone on the road."
Officials also recommended parents review pedestrian safety rules with their children. Information on pedestrian safety and Illinois Rules of the Road can be found on the Illinois Department of Transportation website.
