Kane County’s state’s attorney found officers were justified in returning fire while rescuing two children, and the case has been returned to Batavia police for any further investigation.

Local and Illinois officials are demanding investigations and tighter accountability, saying aggressive federal tactics elsewhere raise safety and civil rights concerns close to home.
