A 9-year-old boy was shot to death at about 4:40 p.m. Monday on Chicago’s South Side. The boy was shot in the head and back near West 80th Avenue and South Damen Street in the Gresham community.
Neighbors say they heard at least five shots. Chicago Police were seen entering an abandoned building, possibly in search of a gunman. The boy’s body was under a sheet for a few hours as the search took place.
ABC Chicago is reporting that police are not ruling out the possibility the child was targeted in the shooting.
