St. Laurence High School Hosts Football Jamboree

On Saturday, August 18, St. Laurence High School hosted a Grade School Football Jamboree. One thousand fifth through eighth grade students attended from 18 different schools, including Christ the King, Alsip, Burbank, and Evergreen Park. 

With parents and siblings, there were over 3,000 people in attendance. Teams of fifth and sixth grade students played each other in scrimmages, while teams of seventh and eighth grade students also faced off in scrimmages.  

This was a great opportunity for Harold Blackmon, St. Laurence’s new head football coach, to introduce himself and his coaching staff to the community.  Blackmon played for the Seattle Seahawks for two seasons and was also a quality control coach for Northwestern University, his alma mater. 

The Vikings’ defensive coordinator Bobby Howard and offensive line coach Marques Sullivan both have an NFL history as well, with Howard playing for the Bears and Sullivan for the Bills, Giants, and Patriots.  Their defensive line coach Jason Scurlock has coached high school football for 16 years, and the offensive coordinator John Doorhy played in the CFL. 

With a great coaching staff and an excellent turnout to their Jamboree, St. Laurence is confident for a great season.
