Candlelight Vigil Planned Amid Rumors Of Greg Bovino's Departure

Bridges // Fuentes Justice Collect of Southeast Side will host a community vigil in the East Side neighborhood, Friday, Nov. 14.

CHICAGO — Amid rumors of Border Patrol Cmdr. Greg Bovino, and federal ICE agents departure from Chicago, Bridges // Puentes Justice Collective of the Southeast will be holding a candlelight vigil in the East Side neighborhood, Friday, Nov. 14. Bovino has helmed Operation Midway Blitz, the Trump Administration's controversial deportation mission, which has sparked outrage from the community.

Attendees are urged to bring candles, flashlights, pictures, flowers, family and friends to the “We Are Stronger Together: A Community Vigil To Stand Strong Despite ICE.”

Gather at 105th Street and Avenue N, and 105th Street and 105th Street and South Ewing. The vigil will run from 5 to 7 p.m.

East Side residents are still fuming over border patrol agents, who rammed a car they were pursuing last month at 105th Street and Avenue N, resulting in a tense standoff with neighbors last month. When community members fought back, ICE agents deployed tear gas, according to news reports.
