Chicago Police Officer Shot in Morgan Park
A Chicago police officer was shot on 112th Street and Racine Avenue Wednesday evening.

A Chicago Police officer was shot Wednesday evening, according to Police News Affairs.
The shooting took place at 112th Street and Racine Avenue, police said.
The officer was shot in the lower leg and the wound is not life threatening, police said. He is currently listed in stable condition at Advocate Christ Hospital. He is described as 35 years old and a 5-year veteran of the force.

The wounded officer was part of the Area South Gun Team and was investigating the area when at 8:05 p.m. they approached three male teens who then fled on foot, police said.
The officers then followed two of the teens to the 1300 block of 112th Place. One of the boys then turned and fired at the officers, police said. The wounded officer then returned fire and shot the 15-year-old, police said.

Both teens were then taken into custody and the one who was shot was transported to Christ Hospital, police said. In addition to the injured teen, two other boys ages 15 and 16 were also in custody, police said.
