Fund Established to Help Victims of Morgan Park Condo Building Fire

A Nov. 24 fire left almost 70 Morgan Park residents without a home and in need of basic essentials. 

The Saturday afternoon 3-11 fire roared through the 34-unit building at 2030 W. 111th Street and destroyed the internal structure of the top floors. A fund has now been established to help the victims of the fire.

Donations can be made in person or sent to the Morgan Park Fire Victims’ Fund at Standard Bank, 2400 W. 95th St. in Evergreen Park. You can call the bank directly at 708-499-2000. 

Since the fund opened yesterday donations have begun to pour in. 

"We are seeing this really take off," said Ald. Matt O'Shea. 

The 19th Ward Office and State Rep. Monique Davis' office are also collecting gift cards for those displaced by the fire. Suggested gift cards include Target, Kohl's, Jewel and Walgreen's. They can be dropped off at the ward office at 10400 S. Western Avenue. 

The office has been overwhelmed with clothing donations and at this point gift cards and monetary donations to the fund are most needed, O'Shea said. 

A dinner will be held Wednesday night for the building's residents where some donations will be distributed and residents can detail to community leaders what they are most in need of.
