Guilty Plea Filed in 2011 Death of Beverly Teen

A Chicago man will face 145 days in prison and four years of electronic monitoring, according to Sun-Times Media.

The man charged in the 2011 death of Beverly teen Kevin Kennelly has filed a guilty plea, according to Sun-Times Media.

In July 2011 Kennelly, 17, was on a beach in Long Beach, Ind. with friends when he was punched in the ear after a disagreement with James Malacek, 20, of Chicago, the Sun-Times reports. He was immediately knocked unconscious and remained on a ventilator for two days before he died.

The terms of the deal stipulate that Malacek will serve 145 days in prison and remain under electronic monitoring for four years. His father, also Kevin Kennelly, called the punishment "a slap on the wrist for what he did."
