Map of Many Colors: Compare the Old and New 19th Ward Garbage Collection Map

Garbage collection in the 19th Ward will be greatly simplified come April 15. Compare the old way of doing things with the new.

Beginning on Monday, April 15th the 19th Ward will transition to the grid system of garbage collection.

Many neighborhoods throughout the city have already transitioned to the simplified collection approach that was designed to reduce the time crews spent driving to various collection areas. The move is expected to save the city millions.

The above maps showcase the stark differences between the two approaches. The old method had crews visiting the ward every day of the week and focusing on areas as small as a few blocks before moving on. The new grid will allow numerous crews to work a neighborhood at once meaning all collection in the 19th Ward will either be on a Monday or Tuesday.

What do you think of the new system?
