McAuley Student Missing For A Week Found Safe, CPD Says

Estefania Herrera, 18, a senior at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School, who went missing a week ago, was found safe on Friday.

CHICAGO — An 18-year-old senior at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School on the city’s Southwest Side, who has been missing for a week, was found Friday afternoon, Chicago police said.

Estefania Herrera, a member of McAuley's swim team, was on her way to meet the team bus for a swim meet last Saturday, when she went missing. Her aunt said the teen swiped her Ventra card on the at the Archer Avenue and Pulaski Road CTA stop, and that was the last anyone heard of her.

The teen’s disappearance sparked rumors that she was picked by federal ICE agents, but turned out not to be true.

Staff and students at the private Catholic high school had been praying for the teen's safe return throughout the week. A prayer vigil was held for Herrera and her family Thursday evening at Nativity of Our Lord in Bridgeport.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, Herrera was found safe Friday afternoon.
