St. Cajetan 6th Grader Wins Worth Township Spelling Bee

Abigail Svilar was the winner in her age group at the annual event.

Worth Township has announced the winners of the 36th Annual Lenon Wisdom Memorial Spelling Bee. The bee was held on Friday, April 12. 

Participants were divided into two divisions.  The Senior Division consisted of 7th and 8thgraders and the Junior Division consisted of 5th and 6th grades.

1st Place - Abigail Svilar of Chicago, age 12 / Grade 6, St. Cajetan School

2nd Place - Adeline Larsen of Palos Heights, age 10 / Grade 5, Southwest Chicago Christian

3rd Place - Paris Williams of Harvey, age 10 / Grade 5, St. Benedict School

Senior Division

1st Place - Richard Godsel of Oak Lawn, age 12 / Grade 7, St. Gerald School

2nd Place - Tom Micun of Oak Lawn, age 14 / Grade 8, St. Gerald School

3rd Place - Eleanor Tiemens of Worth, age 13 / Grade 7, Southwest Chicago Christian

Winners received trophies and certificates along with checks which were donated by the Law Office of John Z Toscas.  First place winners received a $200 check; second place winners received a $100 check and third place winners received a $75 check. 

This annual event is held under the direction of Worth Township Trustee Jack Lind and the Youth Commission whose director is Sue Sortino.
