3 Hurt, 1 Airlifted in I-55 Crash

A woman and two children were hospitalized following the Saturday afternoon crash.

A mother and two children were taken to area hospitals following a one-car crash on southbound I-55 Saturday north of Renwick Road, according to Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton. 

Illinois State Police said the single-vehicle rollover was reported at 4:05 p.m.

Stratton said the woman was driving a 1996 Honda Accord southbound and struck a median wall, then rolled and hit a tree.

The northbound lanes were closed to allow for the landing of a Lifestar helicopter, Stratton said.

Stratton said the woman was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in serious condition. The two children, a boy and a girl, were taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet in good condition, he said. The ages of the victims were not available Saturday afternoon.

A representative for ISP said none of the injuries are expected to be life threatening.

Crews were working to clear the scene of be crash at around 5 p.m., Stratton said.
