Another Retailer Closing All Illinois Stores

The jewelry and accessory chain has filed for bankruptcy and will close all 14 Illinois stores.

ILLINOIS — Jewelry and accessories retailer Charming Charlie has filed for bankruptcy and will close all of its 261 U.S. stores by the end of August, including 14 in Illinois. The news marks another closing in what's been a rough couple of years for retailers in Illinois and nationwide.

The specialty retailer became known following its 2004 opening for grouping women's fashion accessories by color. However, recent times have proved tough for Charming Charlie and the retailer closed 100 locations last year, Dallas News reported.

The retailer said the decision to file for bankruptcy again was made "after the implementation of numerous cost-reduction measures" which failed to stabilize the business and ensure profitability.

Charming Charlie's announcement comes a month after it was revealed that Dressbarn is closing 27 locations in Illinois and all 650 across the United States.
