Another Retailer Closing All Illinois Stores

ILLINOIS — Jewelry and accessories retailer Charming Charlie has filed for bankruptcy and will close all of its 261 U.S. stores by the end of August, including 14 in Illinois. The news marks another closing in what's been a rough couple of years for retailers in Illinois and nationwide.

Charming Charlie currently has these locations in Illinois:

• Shoppes At Grand Prairie, 5201 West War Memorial Drive, Peoria
• Promenade Bolingbrook, 635 E. Boughton Road
• Cherryvale Mall, 7200 Harrison Avenue, Rockford
• The Shops at North Bridge, 520 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago
• Louis Joliet Mall, 3340 Mall Loop Drive
• Fox Valley, 195 Fox Valley Center, Aurora
• Geneva Commons, 202 Commons Drive
• Hillside Town Center, 170 S. Mannheim Road
• Bloomingdale Court, 364 West Army Trail Road
• Gurnee Mills, 6170 West Grand Ave.
• Springfield, 2841 Veterans Parkway
• St. Clair Square, 6520 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights
• Woodfield Mall, F209 Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg

The specialty retailer became known following its 2004 opening for grouping women's fashion accessories by color. However, recent times have proved tough for Charming Charlie and the retailer closed 100 locations last year, Dallas News reported.

The retailer said the decision to file for bankruptcy again was made "after the implementation of numerous cost-reduction measures" which failed to stabilize the business and ensure profitability.

Charming Charlie's announcement comes a month after it was revealed that Dressbarn is closing 27 locations in Illinois and all 650 across the United States.

Other store closings announced this year include Family Dollar locations and 30 Illinois Mattress Firm stores.
