Bolingbrook Park District, Valley View School District Recognized For Partnership

The partnership was recognized at the Illinois Association of Park Districts' Best of the Best Gala this fall.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Bolingbrook Park District and Valley View School District Community Unit School District 365U were recognized for their outstanding partnership at the Illinois Association of Park Districts’ Best of the Best Gala this fall, the park district shared in a news release.

The Best of the Best Gala shines the light on partnerships that serve as a model for others, according to the park district.

For more than 25 years, the Bolingbrook Park District and Valley View School District have maintained a dynamic intergovernmental agreement.

"What began as a resource-sharing solution has evolved into a model of collaboration which enhances the community’s quality of life, promotes innovation and maximizes taxpayer value," according to a release.

“The Bolingbrook Park District and Valley View School District have enjoyed a wonderful relationship for many, many years. The two organizations have always worked collaboratively to ensure the best outcome for the kids and families in the Bolingbrook community. I am personally grateful for being part of this positive relationship for over 15 years, and I have developed many friendships with the park district team along the way,” Michael Lopez, Director of Facility Operations for Valley View School District, said in a release.

The partnership gives priority access to 20+ shared facilities, and has created hundreds of joint programs, from before-and-after school childcare to summer camps serving 2,500+ children annually, sports leagues engaging 3,000+ participants, swimming lessons, community festivals and performing arts productions, according to the park district.

“The most amazing part of this partnership is that it ensures affordable, high-quality opportunities are available for all,” Mike Selep, Bolingbrook Park District Executive Director, said. “By sharing resources, facilities and staff expertise, we have saved millions in capital and operational costs while fostering a stronger, healthier and more connected community.”
